Interpretation and Visitor Experience

Visitor EXPERIENCe - Going-to-the-Sun Road

Glacier National Park underwent a 10-year reconstruction effort of its historic Going-to-the-Sun Road. To reduce traffic during construction, the Park built a transit center. It also established a shuttle service. I planned, designed, and managed the interpretive and experiential component of the project.

Shuttle Branding

The bus wrap I designed is a blue silhouette of the mountain range visitors see when they arrive at Lake McDonald.

Shuttle Stops

I designed 16 double-sided exhibits and wrote interpretive content at every shuttle stop. Shuttle branding carried through in each exhibit with a relief cut out at the top of the exhibit frames. One side of the exhibit displays a shuttle map and operating logistics. The other side of the exhibit highlights the significance of the area and that location.

Each exhibit includes a group or personal activity to pass the time while waiting. Visitors learn more about the park at each stop by listening to an audio tour I wrote and recorded. Concrete pads, stamped with tracks of an animal seen in that area allows children of all ages to see, touch and feel animal tracks for an immersive experience.

Apgar Visitor Center

The Apgar Visitor Center is the main shuttle hub on the west side of the park. There you will find exterior and interior exhibits and web-based kiosks. I wrote and designed all the interpretive and informational exhibits and kiosks.
